Know your round before your list
Pre-seed, seed, and Series A investors evaluate different things. Define your stage, target amount, and target cheque size first — your investor list follows from it.
In India, angels and operator angels typically write ₹5L–₹50L cheques, micro VCs ₹25L–₹2Cr, and institutional seed funds ₹1Cr upwards. Ranges vary widely — verify each investor's actual preferences.
Build a fit-first target list
Filter by sector focus, stage preference, cheque size, geography, and portfolio relevance. Fifty right-fit investors beat five hundred random names.
Study each investor's portfolio: an investor with two adjacent portfolio companies understands your market — and may also have conflicts. Know which before you reach out.
Warm the list before you need it
Start sending updates 3–6 months before the raise. By the time you open the round, your best-fit investors already know your trajectory.
Track every relationship: who opened your updates, who replied, who offered help. Warmth is measurable.
Run the raise as a process
Batch conversations into a tight window to create momentum. Move investors through explicit stages: contacted, meeting, diligence, committed.
Keep notes on every conversation. Investors talk to each other; consistency in your story matters.
A note on expectations
No platform, list, or update cadence guarantees funding. What a structured process guarantees is that when an investor is ready to say yes, nothing about your preparation gets in the way.
